Sisters and Brethren, we came together, to celebrate our Winter Saint Johns feast. The more the year progressed, the days grew shorter, and so too the periods with light. If we did not know any better, we should become afraid, that eventually darkness would overcome.
These are the outer signs of nature, but they also have a strong influence on our hearts, thoughts and actings.
We can see this cyclus symbolicly as a continuous change between light and darkness, of dying and rebirth, of a trial, if we can keep our faith in the light in dark times. And, just like we can be exuberant in the summer, when we reach the maximum of light, we are on a modest level happy with the transition from increasing darkness into increasing light.
It is also a moment of contemplation. Befor we enter the new era, we look once again to what lies behind us. We ask ourselves if our labours was directed always on the Master. At the thought of the returning Light, we intent, to do that better in the coming year. Especially on this day of St.John the Evangelist we have to contemplate upon this, and we need to train ourselves anew in the work that leads to it. Thereafter, we will work at the drawing board, on which we - between - the two great parallels, will see again our masonic task.
Br. Orator will give us the tools to get the necessary insight in his speach later, after which we will form the chain of brethren, wherein we will find the seal of the fact, that we can reach that goal only together.
Sisters and Brothers, we will work at this Winter Stolstice on this labour, and we will train ourselves further tonight in the labour that must lead us to the Light of the GAotU. We prepare for the period that will come, and face it full of confidence.
